If only terpenes are being detected the sample doesn't have to be heated, but different ambient temperatures will produce different results.

The sample would need to be heated to detect cannabinoids. terpenes give off vapor at room temp but the amount varies significantly between 15C and 30C. The accuracy of this turd over a temperature range would be huge.
