sorry don't understand

if a mm shows 50, 100, 500, 1000, or 5,000 on the ask, whether he eventually will sell 50,000 or even a million shares, if you hit the ask price with those shares that he is showing, as in the case we are discussing, HE IS REQUIRED TO SELL YOU THE SHARES

In the case we are discussing it appears that someone beat our friend to the ask...

Couldn't the 5000/10000 on L2 be just a placeholder?

Isn't that still happening where MM's aren't required to show exact amount for pennys?

OTC BB and Pink Sheet Sizes

On the Pink Sheets and OTCBB, market makers are not required to show their order size and 99% of the time will not do so. Normally, the size will be 5000 shares. This means that the market maker is obligated to buy or sell 5000 shares at the quoted price. They could have 5000 sharesor 5 billion shares to buy or sell. It's important to know this when trading in OTCBB and Pink Sheet stocks. Here's an example of what it looks like on Level 2. You'll also see a size of 50 as opposed to the 5,000...just keep in mind that all sizes in the Level 2 are in there as a factor of 100 (50 x 100 = 5000); in other words, it's the same thing as 5,000.
