Marijuana Use is Officially Decriminalized in Israel

Amfil Technologies' stocks are bound to go up, as marijuana has been labeled as "safe" in "the Holy Land of God".

Israel is the latest country to join the list of those that have passed laws decriminalizing certain marijuana possession offenses. Basically, decriminalization of marihuana means allowed small amounts of marijuana that are solely for personal consumption, and therefore you cannot be arrested for it, serve prison time, or have a criminal record for,as first-time possession offense isusually treated the same way as minor traffic violation.Through his non-profit company Israel Up Close, Joel Landau has been promoting Israel’s scientific and cultural achievements. He sees this as an important step for Israel and its society, although he believes that there is still a long way ahead of them.

This Sunday, Israel officially approved the decriminalized use of marijuana, and according to the current law, first-time offenders caught using marijuana in a public place will face $270 fine, but criminal charges will brought only after the person re-offends it four times. In the proposal formulated by the Public Security and Justice Ministries it is stated that first-time offenders caught using marijuana in public space will receive a fine rather than face criminal action. Joel Landau salutes the government's approval because it as a step closer to implementing the new policy, which encourages public information and treatment instead of criminal enforcement.

Still in order to implement the policy, the inter-ministerial team needs to propose amendments, regulations and deal with the required changes to carry out the new policy. Joel Landau says that there is a positive message sent here and that is that the millions sf Israelis who consume marijuana aren’t criminals. To ensure that the change is implemented, the Knesset Special Committee on Drug and Alcohol Abusewill carry on following the details in the committee. Starting from today, there will be a special committee discussion on the decriminalization reform. Joel Landau recommends switching the focus on marijuana usage from the criminal level to the educational. One way to achieve that is putting emphasize on educational campaigns instead of administrative fines. The money gathered from the fines will be donated for financing antidrug education courses and treatments.
