Who is John Galt or now more important who is Bonnie Gestring and
what is her context of 'worthless'?

She is anti-mining period so she will write all she can about how no mines are the best kind... too bad that's not how we build the future. Salmon farming (for the record) isn't good for the environment either but that doesn't grab headlines these days.

So, to her with no material self benefit from any mine, they in fact are worthless to her... and that's about it.
