ChanBond's patent is about how the cable company delivers internet to multiple subscribers simultaneously over the same wires. Streaming is about what you use the internet for, not how it gets there.

Ultimately if you get your internet from a cable company wherein you have a copper coax cable (like what goes to the TV) plugged into a cable modem, then your cable company is in violation of this patent.

Companies like Google and Verizon who deliver their internet over a pure fiber network are not in violation of this patent as that is completely different technology.

That is why this is such a big deal. If this suit is not appealed and it sticks, then the cable companies either have to pay royalties to continue to use their existing infrastructure or replace it with a fiber infrastructure like Verizon. Switching to fiber would be so costly that paying the royalties is actually the cheaper option.
