Will 2-73 reverse severe and moderate Alzheimer's?

This will be a determination of the Phase 3 trial, where dosage size, duration, frequency, genetics, and other factors can be assessed in conjunction with therapeutic outcomes.

The increased (or even stabilized) mental health of the Australian Phase 1/Phase 2 trial strongly indicated favorable results. No other therapy has ever been able to do these things; either stabilize existing Alzheimer's symptoms (keeping the disease from typically progressing), or even increase cognitive capacities. Expanded experiences with Anavex 2-73 with people who have Alzheimer's dementia will be needed to tell if Anavex 2-73 can stabilize, or better, reverse the mental decline of severe Alzheimer's.

Even if it can't (I'd bet that with proper dosing and duration it can), the Australian trial data indicate that it can, at least, stop progression of the disease. That, alone, would be a remarkable new therapeutic approach. Catch Grandad's failing mental capacities at the earliest, not-yet-debilitating stages, and Anavex has a multi-billion dollar new drug (and millions will be able to live almost normal lives in their final years).
