I'm a baby boomer. Some form of public assistance was already in existence. I think it's been an issue for quite a number of decades.
During the Great Depression there was federal assistance. Even then, there was criticism about subsidizing bums.
So this not necessarily anything new.
Here again is the difficult but right choice issue. OK so the current and past food stamp programs were abused.
And then you listen to stories about those who were grateful for the food stamps when they were kids, and then they went to college or university, and so on and so forth.
Anyone making the statement that people accepting SNAP assistance is working the system is merely spewing hate rhetoric.
