Sorry you are absolutely incorrect, connections are everything, in fact in business you are only as good as your network period.
Big companies acquire smaller companies tech all the time for a multitude of reasons. I would say Panasonic would be more interested than Pfizer honestly and Big Pharma is already eyeing this industry. Here is one little companies list of acquisitions.
