Wal-Mart's (WMT) price investments seen as an earnings driver in the first quarter

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT) is expected to announce first-quarter earnings on Thursday before the opening bell.

Analysts believe Wal-Mart's(WMT) earnings will show the company is steady, even as the broader sector staggers into the next quarter. Still, Wal-Mart(WMT) had to make investments that will show up on its balance sheet to reach those results.
