As for retirement? Some get off on the wrong foot, thinking that it's a time for the actualization of diminishing returns.
For me, it's a dramatically different environment. And yes, I do view retirement as an environment for, in a sense, I'm now allowed to make mistakes so long as they're not stupid ones. lol
With age is supposed to come wisdom. I'd like to think I've now accumulated some of that stuff.
Nowadays I'm living it up in ways I'd not anticipated years back. Things I've learned no longer dog me. In fact, we have two dogs---heelers, both.
Most of my life I was convinced "they" were right and I must be an axxhole. But now that I'm the steward of a real non-human donkey, I'm learning all the time about some of the differences between donkeys and humans. But a word of caution here: Don't EVER tell your donkey he's not human! He's invariably convinced he's the only true-to-life human around the ranch. But the trade-offs are incredibly enriching for he's the most loving animal ever.
My pony is even more devoted for she's not trying to psyche me out as will LS (short for little xhit). If this little gal were any prettier, she'd be a pinup Shetland.
When it comes to stocks, we older guys get to utilize things we've learned over the years---things gleaned at times when every little gain soothes all the times of critical losses that stymied us and hurt something awful in the wallet.
Just look at ALDW! Is this beautiful or what? Oh, I know it'll probably give up much of the gains of today and perhaps from earlier in the week. But that's ok as I don't see us giving back very much, given that we don't go ex-distribution until the end of next week---Thursday, I believe. People want to jump on for the:
1. 38 cent juicy distribution awaiting unit holders
2. obvious ascending trend now that we're getting paid so handsomely for the worst quarter of the year. Things go up from here.
3. motorists are driving more and more miles all the time. Oil is cheap? Yes! I hope it stays relatively cheap so that driving is an automatic response without grave concern for the price at the pump.
4. I'm exercising my privilege as a piggy investor. I've got a lot of units of ALDW and am in the profit zone at $8.67 so let's drive each unit higher so you can get this old man excited. Besides, I'm gonna whoop and holler next week when we push ever closer to the $12 threshold I've been declaring reachable for months.
Retirement? It's the best time of my life---great health, friends, home, wife, critters and an ever-changing and enriching life encompassing it all. I sincerely hope others here are feeling the wealth brought by senior status. And it you're not yet qualified for senior status? Get with it! Time waits for nobody, so get a move on!
