Yeah, people don't realize you don't need to hit a home run or flip in a matter of seconds on every play. You have to buy somewhat quality stocks (hard for OTC, but they are out there) and you have to buy small so you don't get stuck in a position, AND so you can hold onto it and not get worried if it doesn't immediately go up when you buy (which then forces newbies to sell for a loss).
Have to get a feel for the stock, or watch it for days before you buy.
Unless you risk a flip. I did that with ASTI today .0007 to .0009, but I usually buy and hold for a while.
Your quote of $500 a day keeps the job away is something I learned a few years back, but wished I learned 10 years ago.
