As another aside, when the numerous (IIRC, there were over 200 - most filed in Alaksa state courts and Federal court in Anchorage) legal cases against Exxon and Exxon Shipping for the Exxon Valdez accident were being litigated/settled, the law firms for Exxon/Exxon Shipping leased a pair of used 727s.

Exxon's lead counsels, O'Melveny and Meyers (LA) and Bogle and Gates (Seattle), were constantly shuttling people and boxes of documents between LA, Seattle, and Anchorage (and some to Juneau). It made more financial sense for them to lease the two 727s and fly a daily scheduled service between LA, Seattle, Anchorage, and sometimes Juneau.

A friend of mine was a locum tenens physician from Seattle area who was a jury consultant (based on his psychiatric training and some prior experience in jury selections) for the Exxon legal team and he flew the 727s. Sometimes he'd be in LA and then fly the whole LA to Anchorage flight, or when he was in Seattle, he'd hop the flight to LA or to Anchorage, as required.

He said it was without doubt the finest inflight service he ever had. Beat any first class service on a commercial flight by a wide margin. They had Alaskan king crab, salmon, halibut, reindeer, black cod, sushi, sashimi, fresh sourdough bread just baked the hour before departure and still warm, an open bar - and a real full liquor selection and mixologist, Belgian chocolates, champagne, the freshest California fruits, tablecloth service, nice china, the whole works.

He said that was the favorite job he ever had - and the lodging and meals in Anchorage were top shelf also. He loved it for the couple of years he worked that gig.

Now THAT is the way to fly. I suppose that's how the billionaires fly, butt I have to hand it to the O'Melveny and the Bogle/Gates folks for pulling that off for a couple of/few years and sending the bill to Exxon/Exxon Shipping.
