The Andy Griffith show was actually filmed in California but was supposedly in a small NC town called Mayberry. There is no Mayberry but some of the local landmarks on the show certainly match Mount Airy NC. Such as Mt pilot which is really called "Pilot Mountain"...nice short hiking trails. Of course they talk a lot about going to Raleigh which is a few hours away. They refer to the town of "Toast" on the show which is beside Mount Airy.
Yes I do like the old show but have seen them all I guess more than once...it kinda old hat now but still interesting. I live in a small town named Boonville after Daniel Boone who stayed here often. Another link to the oldies is that David Hart from "In the Heat of the night" lived here in Boonville for a little while. Long enough to get rid of a wife I heard. He was the bigger cop who was always eating or drinking something (not Bubba).
