Susie, Anyone who receives a dreadful diagnosis will receive extra attention from family, friends and colleagues. You dont't have to a professional ballplayer.

The exception would be for evil people.

Only an illness in a person like Fidel Castro would spark joy amoung his enemies. I guess not too many people would be upset if it was disclosed that Bin Laden had a terminal illness.
