I'll start by objecting to the word dismissive. I don't like to dismiss anything, whether likely or unlikely. I admit I was hoping for a better outcome than now appears to be the case, but then it's my practice to always hope for the best and prepare for the worst. The "FINAL" outcome of this escapade may prove very disappointing, but it won't be life altering.
Again, I point out that I also invested way too much time watching "LOST", and found myself very disappointed in getting a different ending than the one that producers promised.
It would be nice if somebody offered a money back guarantee when they sell you a stock. If you come across one, please let me know about it.
