So you're not really opposed to subsidies, just subsidies that don't prop up the company you'd like to see propped up.

Your assessment assumes private funding is in the cards, which it doesn't yet appear to be. The company has made noises about private funding many times in the past, and nothing ever comes of it. Hard to imagine there'd be any interest now, considering how little market conditions have actually changed.
