BULK METALLIC GLASS LAMINATES AND METHODS OF FABRICATING THE SAME

Abstract
Laminate BMG-fiber feedstock and parts made from one or more fiber layers and two or more bulk metallic glass (BMG) layers are described herein. The hot formed BMG-fiber laminates have vastly superior strength, ductility and use parameters as compared to the fiber or BMG alone as well as to conventional metal-fiber weaves. Methods of formation for both the BMG-fiber laminate and for near-to-net parts made therefrom are also provided.

INVESTMENT-DIECASTING MOLD

Abstract
An investment-diecasting mold has a thin inner investment casting ceramic layer surrounded by a thicker outer metallic diecasting material. The two layers, inner ceramic and outer metallic, provide a hybrid mold for the fabrication of near-to-net or near net shape amorphous alloy composed parts. The inner ceramic layer being appropriate for thermoconductivity and the casting of intricately designed parts, and the outer metallic diecasting mold for support of the inner investment casting layer and as a heat sink for quench of the molten amorphous alloys during use.

BULK METALLIC GLASS SHEETS AND PARTS MADE THEREFROM

Abstract
Bulk metallic glass sheets and parts fabricated from individual bulk metallic glass fibers and tows are provided. Bulk metallic glass fibers and tows are used to prepare complex weave designs having desired thickness and fiber orientation for a particular use of a BMG feedstock. Appropriately designed bulk metallic glass weaves can be thermoplastically heated to form sheets and feedstock for parts having desired wall thickness and area coverage.
