I know the patent process. First you do a preliminary patent search to make sure your idea is protectable. Then optionally you hire a patent lawyer to do a professional search and give you an assessment of the viability of receiving a patent. Then you apply for a provisional patent to protect the idea, and reserve a place in what is ultimately about a 3 to 4 year expensive process. Don't see any problems here regarding the intellectual property. Provisional Patents are legally defensible and valuable.
