This might be why. I do think that the patent being public would normally help generate a buzz around the company, but we know Dr O is in the process of getting several patents, so maybe an unpublished patent would force Keough's hand, who to me at least, seems to be a patent troll.
If Keough files a patent for something to compete with Viabecline that is not unique enough, he will have wasted precious time and money doing so. If Keough catches wind that Dr O has filed for an unpublished patent application, it would really apply the pressure to either speed his process along, or pursue a different product/market.
