The headlines ...

At the top of the destination of the link are these two titles (my underlines):

3D XPoint memory stumbles in race to ditch DRAM; RRAM may step up.

Due to mediocre performance, Intel and Micron have put off the release of the 3D XPoint technology until 2017.

When I read the author's bio and I see the words stumbles and mediocre, I begin to wonder if there's a tale of hurt egos or sour grapes, or just plain lack of understanding.

The reason I bring this up is that I first studied what Intel and Micron were doing during 2015, and at that time the schedule was that Intel would release commercial products at about the end of 2016 or first part of 2017 and that Micron would probably be a few months behind primarily because of having lower funding for the needed production facilities. And I also read at that time that the development of 3D memory has been long and difficult.

Nothing that pays off really big is easy.

It's almost impossible to find dates on that page, or linked pages, but I found two references. One in a title and another in a note on a linked page:

5 Hot Infrastructure Technologies for 2016 is the title.

The note is, Editor's note: This item was updated in December 2016. The reference is clearly older than the update, but he didn't say how old.

--------------
Just a personal note: I really hate it when authors present stuff and don't put dates on it. What could they be thinking?
--------------

When developing brand new state-of-the-art technologies, who doesn't stumble? The stumbling comes with the territory.

In technology, the difference between winners and losers is that winners keep pushing ahead and solve problems along the way because they know that everything is possible if the concepts don't violate the rules of physics, while losers throw up their hands and say it's impossible when they are weary of their work.
