An institution can inform the the MM of a pending order and the MM will start buying what is available (even perhaps take out stop limits) to fill the order. Once the MM reaches the goal, they will report the trade. I suspect many of the block trades right at the close is the result of the MM filling an institutional order received earlier in the day. I also suspect that is why we see a rise in share price in the last few minutes of the day. The MM is driving up price due to their buying to satisfy the block order received form an institution. Also, LPC can be on the selling side of block orders.
