Good post.
Also to consider is what is EXPECTED for the salaries they get? NOBODY on this board accepted my rhetorical challenge months ago [and even about a year ago] to delineate what they expect from the employees for what they are paid. I believe in bonuses and the like, but it has to be for PERFORMANCE over and ABOVE what is expected at the given salary.
I have experience in doing just that. Defining a set of expectations that is a base level. Hitting performance metrics above that define the amount of bonus.

We did not get into "Other" compensation items like low interest loans or country club memberships, but the concept is the same.
I am probably on everyones ignore list.
