Perhaps critical point:

While NOKIA may have a license for IDCC's patent portfolio, it's products may only use, for example, 2 of IDCC's patents. If those 2 patents are invalid, Nokia owe's IDCC nothing because it is selling no products (and thus owes no royalties) containing IDCC IPR.
