‘Till today, I never thought about 3D Printing on an industrial scale.

I worked in machining for a while. The entire process is based on
reducing the size of a piece of metal thru various toolings until a skeleton of the original slug becomes a useful part. A very labor and machine intensive process. The waste generated is an industry by itself.

The Lockheed advert is a mind blower. Thanks, mcsharkey.

3D Printing inverts the process. Contemplate if you will, the global economics of scale, if the widget now made in some Asian backwater, can be produced as needed by simply changing software and feedstock.

The “Cheap Labor” premise of many offshoring deals takes a body blow.

A little taggant in the pixie dust of materiels used to create a 3D part seems intuitive. Plastics revolutionized the World. 3D Printing appears poised to do the same. The economic “Pull” of the technology appears irresistible.
