Is it dumb for BP to wait? Of course it is.

The longer they wait, the more expensive we will likely become. New data, trial start, etc.
The longer they wait, the more likely we will have more potential suitors or partners.
The longer they wait, the more confident Missling becomes and the more likely he decides to keep a bigger piece of the pie.

Is there a reason to wait? Is it more prudent to wait for some trial results before proceeding. Yes, but when you snooze, you lose. Being first is a big deal. Especially in the land of biotech.
