Great Write up, The Problem with our Society is Lawyers. They have driven up the costs for everything from Insurance, Medical, Medications, Food, Automotive, Construction, and anything else People now sue for at the advice of Lawyers who use specially written laws as weapons. I'll give you a great example, In New Jersey there is a law called the "New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act" This law has very little to do with Fraud and it's the only one in the Country like it and designed Specifically for Home Remodeling. It states anything over $500.00 must be written in Contract form and signed. This Contract must contain License Numbers, Insurance Info, Every Item needed for job listed and detailed, Start Finish Date, Etc. Contracts become Pages of legal BS. Now, Even if you build the most magnificent Renovation but forgot to list one thing on your contract you lose automatically and you must pay the Homeowners legal bills which are then Trebled (Tripled). You also have to pay your Lawyer, and all the other related court costs for filings, motions, $500.00 an hour for a Mediator for several meditations to settle out of court, etc.
So, You now have Lawyers going to Job sites and contacting Homeowners and explaining that they can get the entire project completed and not pay a dime just by using this law which was made to protect Homeowners from shady Contractors but does not exclude the Honest Ones or New Homes. I know this law very well as i did a favor for someone who was letting one of my Employees use his dock for his boat. Long story short, Loved the Job, Refused to Pay final Payment unless I threw in another $25,000. of free work and Used law to try and get his $60,000. back due to missing wording in the contract.
Had to settle out of court for half on advice of lawyer who showed me this law.
Later found out this Guy had done this over 10 times.
Political Lawyers should not be writing Laws for things they know nothing about.
If this law is bad, How many other laws are just like it?
