Not knowing how things have worked leads to false assumptions, apathy, and neglect. I spent my career fixing things in the recreational boating industry. Outboard motors are just plastic and metal pieces but I saw this over and over. Boaters sense something isn't quite right. Signs are clearly there that things aren't the way they used to be. Maybe it doesn't run as smooth, reach the same top engine speed or the temperature gauge reads a little higher. But everybody else's boat seems to be running and the fishing is good. So, ignoring obvious warning signs they keep going, pushing it until there's a failure that's ridiculously expensive and time consuming. Sound familiar? Like the bankers and traders leading up to the great recession? Or maybe we'll look back on the Trump presidency that way :)
