I think it is likely Sessions will be confirmed but hopefully Trump but the more encouraging part is the bolded section. Also Sessions may have bigger fish to fry enforcing laws against illegal immgration and other dangerous crimes.

The article also mentions Thiel and $75M stake in the marijuana industry. Hopefully he may have some influence with Trump and as Trump is pro business would not want to hurt a growing industry, and direct costs of fighting against drugs to fighting against other drugs than marijuana.
