Is it all along the same principles of photons and photon mapping used in photoreal 3d renderings? Light samples are shot through an array from the camera and then the image is "lit" or "drawn" by the amount of bounces, generally the first bounce is the most important but when it does that, it loses a substantial amount of information and power for second, third, fourth bounces etc until its so weak its useless.

Same idea, same problems? If transported photons collide with either themselves or another source like angles for directing, do they lose potency and information? I'm probably talking out of my ass, but I'm seeing a lot of technologies starting to overlap. Photogammetry, VR, unbiased render engines; all using physics to make "art". Magic Leap?
Billion dollar investment.
