This is a Johns Hopkins University document. The following extract appears in a discussion about heart arrhythmia:
In 3 white sisters and their father, Chen et al. (2002) identified the same mutation, which they designated S1103Y, thus demonstrating that this mutation does exist in the white population. The mutation was associated with a considerable risk of syncopy, ventricular arrhythmia, ventricular fibrillation, and sudden death, Each of the 3 sibs was genotyped for 31 'ancestry informative markers' to provide an estimation of biogeographic ancestry on 3 axes: Native American, West African, and European.
This is from Affymetrix press release, sounds like a pretty fast system....I wonder if it's cheaper too.... LOL
Affymetrix Launches Mapping 10K Array and CustomSeq(TM) Resequencing Array

"In less than two weeks, I completely resequenced 20 mitochondrial genomes using CustomSeq arrays," said Dr. Anirban Maitra, Assistant Professor of Medicine, Johns Hopkins University. "I used only three PCR amplifications, dramatically simplifying the sample prep required. Data analysis proved to be faster and more accurate than with capillary sequencing. By enabling the individual researchers to conduct large-scale sequencing experiments in their own labs, CustomSeq arrays will facilitate the adoption of complete sequence analysis for clinical applications."
Now...why would Affymetrix be talking at the same forensics conference as Tony? I wonder if their new 10K mapping array thingy works on forensics?
