You're wondering about prospects for AMD stock appreciation: I say, "Wait until August 4."

On August 4 we will get 2 GHz Opterons. What seems to be running below the radar, though, is that there may be vastly improved SPEC scores released with the new Portland Group compilers.

So, if the compilers do not produce much better SPEC scores, we may see little movement in the stock price, or perhaps a small advance on one more speed-grade introduction.

If the compilers unexpectedly give a jump to performance figures, the stock price could well jump to match. I don't think this eventuality is priced in -- I'd say stick around and see how it turns out.
