Putting pot under the scope: State-mandated labs to test Oregon recreational marijuana for potency and purity

Oregon voters legalized recreational marijuana by passing Measure 91 in November 2014. Just before recreational pot became legal for people to possess on July 1, 2015, Oregon lawmakers passed a raft of procedural laws in House Bill 3400. The regulations included the requirement for recreational marijuana product testing by state accredited labs. Recreational marijuana sales began in Oregon on Oct. 1, 2015, through medical marijuana dispensaries overseen by the Oregon Health Authority.

Starting Oct. 1 this year, the OLCC takes over, and anyone growing, selling or making products from marijuana — either recreational or medical — must have an OLCC license.
