If this were the case why have a meeting just to show a check mark?

Because this is a 4 year multi million dollar international study which will produce an interim statistical study consisting of a number of elements each of which must be evaluated as part of a mosaic of information that will ultimately produce a binary decision. That decision will either terminate the study, maybe appropriately, or maybe after the data is unblinded, earlier than optimal, or commit the study to complete the next leg at the cost of a significant investment of yet more time and money.

Ya wanna get it right and get everything checked independently by multiple eyeballs. Then ya can show a check mark that people can believe in.
