Bigworld, Good idea, re ammo. I had a 'Judge' several years back, a Public Defender snubbie version which would be ideal for carrying. S+W makes the more expensive Governor, which has the advantage of also shooting the .45 ACP, a very useful round and cheaper to shoot than the .45 Long Colt.
The S+Ws are higher quality but somewhat bulkier, but the problem with Taurus is their quality control has slipped over the years and one of the local gun shops here won't even carry them anymore. With some Taurus revolvers you'll pull the trigger and the round fails to fire, so if you can afford the S+W that's the way to go.
For the .410 shot shell, Winchester makes a potent self defense round called the PDX1 which has 3 plated 'cylindrical projectiles' plus 12 plated shot BBs. They're expensive but you can use regular Federal .410 rounds for practice and save the PDX1s for self defense/emergencies.
