Pisd,

Do you not find it even the least bit convincing that Aerojet Rocketdyne purchased a license to use PR3D for the contract they recently made with the USAF to develop standards for AM printing, as an indication that there is an acceptance of Sigma's technology?

Do you not find it interesting that this purchase was made public and that there has be NO OTHER public indication of ANY OTHER technology being used by Aerojet?

I have never said that I expect the standards, when adopted, will read "PR3D". That is completely unrealistic. What is realistic is that the standard may include processes and technological approaches which are the underlying basis for the application of the technology as performed by PR3D.

As regards your doubts about Sigma technology being accepted, I am curious to know what evidence you have of alternative technologies and processes which are being developed, either as completely in-house efforts of the "big" companies or as a collaboration such as those demonstrated by America Makes, EWI etc.

The industry will not be forced to buy PR3D. When there is a standard developed, adopted and published, industry will have to comply with that standard. It is my expectation that PR3D will meet the standard and thus will be the path of least resistance for industry to meet the standard. I would be most appreciative of factual information which suggests that the patents, approach and technology of PR3D will not be accepted as you seem to believe. I would also like to know what the existing alternatives are and what their state of development are, what involvement the developers have with industry efforts to develop standards and any collaborative efforts they are making between the developers of such a technology and the expected end users of such technology.

The industry is definitely not at a "standstill" nor does the industry "owe" Sigma anything for the patents Sigma holds. The issue of industry owing Sigma will be relevant only when the industry uses patented technology ....
