When did we let this happen? The "Fed" dominates headlines and triggers algorithmic movements in markets to structure favorable terms for interests who place their ex-employees at the head of the institution. The song and dance is self-served, as they put lipstick on a pig and hide it with dot plots.
It is not, nor has it ever been their mandate to set rates, the Federal Reserve is not a "federal" institution, nor is it a bank (no "reserve" as they have zero vaults or coffers).
Frustrating...probably should have deleted this post. Rant over
