Companies are often in negotiations and they won't confirm the existence in the midst of it. They will answer the question based on the correct answer at the time. And truth is on the day he asked no partnership or collaboration was announced so the statement answer he received were accurate. I will not call him a liar. I believe he is being truthful. But facts are time based too, they change. I've been exposed to M&A and trust me when I tell you, deals are not confirmed until they are final. The bigger companies follow the letter of the law on company rules. They generally will only confirm collaboration discussions once approvals are in place. The smaller ones will mention collaboration but not kiss and tell until they can. I can't even tell you how many early stage deals have fallen through somewhere within the negotiation stage. You don't confirm until its final. Contract negotiations are no joke. That's just the way it works.

But scientist, they don't get corporate, they'll spill the beans unintentionally at times. :)
