The World Bank proposed the Government of Azerbaijan to establish special agency cleansing the polluted territories.
Peter Thomson, director of the WB infrastructure department for Europe and Central Asia, discussed the issue with Azerbaijani offices and president, APA reports.
Mr. Thomson told a media briefing that he had meetings at Cabinet of Ministers, Economic Development, Ecology and Natural Resources, Industry and Energy, Transport, Emergency Situations, Culture and Tourism Ministries, National Bank, SOCAR, Azersu and discussed "Cooperation Strategy" project with the Government.
"We discussed investment making in infrastructure sector, the World Bank's role in the cleansing of polluted Absheron Peninsula. The World Bank is ready to contribute to purification of the polluted lands."
He also said that the Bank can allow loans and render technical assistance to the Government.
"It is estimated that the polluted territories are over 30 000 hectares. The Bank can allocate $50mn and finance other projects. The purification may require about $100mn."
