Even back in the 1990s outside of actual physical damage to the disk, there were ways to recover "corrupted" disks. The polarity of the bits die slowly, even when overwritten. And of course a lawyer would never ever think of backing up the disk for disaster recovery. Maybe that's just a trait of Microcrap lawyers? As in some things are best lost!
