I honestly do not believe that TCG and its members have been assembled to enable Microsoft to totally control and own the trusted computing platform and all related peripherals. In fact if you think about the points Cricket made and add to the fact that there are new members in the phone world -- those companies having specifically rejected and fought against Microsoft's cell phone OS - you'd have to think there is much interest in keeping it an open field. Add to it the embrace of Linux and you'd see that there are a collection of major players balancing the situation.

I am not pleased that the Wave/Microsoft relationship did not flourish like the way the intel relationship is likely flourishing and that Embassy is more a threat than a benefit (attestation and other services are complimentary IMO). Wave and Microsoft have collaborated a lot in the past but as we have learned these relationships can change on a dime or at least a quarter.

Go ahead and buy Microsoft. They likely are going away but whether they can maintain big growth is really another story. Their competitors are a lot smarter today than 20 years ago.
