1. When a company goes into the market to buy up its own stock, it decreases the outstanding share count, thus earnings are distributed among fewer shares, raising earnings per share (enabling earnings to go positive quicker).
2. “Running out of money” is priced into the stock. Removing that worry via any strategy, especially one that fast tracks EPS, makes the company stock much more attractive to larger funds, and equally less attractive as a short to hedge funds.
