I agree one cannot be too careful. However, keep in mind the oil dependent Russian economy is unwinding. He would realize his future is here with a rising star in the computer security field.
He would also count himself lucky to be in on the ground floor of an opportunity that is rare in Russia today. Sadly, highly educated people there are not paid what they are worth. Here they are. He would have seen that. I believe that like my Eastern European grandparents he wants to become an American and contribute to his new homeland that has offered him a chance to better himself.
