Actually biodegradable implants already exist. THey are for fracture repair, not joint replacement and consist of polymeric matrix that degrades/absorbs in the body with the goal of leaving the tissue unharmed after the repair has healed. LQMT therefore does not have an application in this as it is metallic. It may still play a role for joint replacement technology as this would need to be non biodegradable as you pointed out.

Just some info from a doc that actually used implants.
