Off and on over the years I've used lots of closed end and ETF income funds. I've also used ETFs that are "equity" based but are filtered for reasonable dividends rather than "growth" or some other measure. WisdomTree has been at this 10 years now and this review (published by them) talks about this idea vs cap weighted indexes.

I guess I'd not realized that some of these have been around a decade already. I use quite a few in my retirement account.
