Duke submitted for breakthrough status last Spring based on Phase I data; very happy to see they received it. Phase I results of their a one-time injected genetically modified polio virus included a cure in a few recurrent GBM patients, and in that setting it's quite miraculous. That breakthrough designation will speed up the development and approval process. Fingers and toes crossed it helps more patients and that they can replicate the early findings. I seriously mean that. For me personally, I'd rather see a cure then make money in this space. Pretty sure DoGood feels the same way. That aside, I don't think Duke's polio virus study will affect the nGBM treatment landscape anytime soon - it still has a long way to go in testing. It may not even step on NW Bio's turf in the near term (or their own competing technology turf, as Duke has a number later stage GBM vaccines in testing too). NW Bio will likely only be up for approval in full resected nGBM as that's their intend to treat population; unless they can statistically prove within the same trial that it helps partial resected patients too. Data will further be analyzed by resection criteria too. Time will tell what happens. But good news today for science.

The timing of this breakthrough status news really sucks for long investors. It will likely cause more fear selling. Hopefully NW Bio has good news of their own to report soon on something, anything. Longs really need that right now.
