Morningstar equity ratings provide investors with an independent measure of whether a stock is overvalued or undervalued based on forward-looking estimates. A 5-star rating represents a stock that is a good value at its current price and is undervalued compared with estimates of its fair value. Conversely, a 1-star rating represents a stock that is overvalued compared to estimates of its fair value. Updated daily, ratings can change for three reasons: because Morningstar alters its estimate of a stock's fair value, because a stock's price changes, or both.
