is that legal? Well funny you should ask..Yes it is ..Market Makers are able to go long(hold a position, and go short a stock..there are rules..
A Favorite Illegal Game of Market Makers, not all, but some, is to find a Company either that they KNOW(through an offering circular0friends-cohorts)) that is bringing a Secondary Offering to Market..(DILUTION and LOWERING OF CURRENT shareholder VALUE- Guaranteed LOWER PRICE WITH ZERO RISK) and ILLEGALLY SHORT THAT STOCK..the Profits are RISK FREE, TREMENDOUS and ILLEGAL..However..they get fined less than they make..and it's now like they are shut down for doing it..
SO Guess what the Market Makers THOUGHT the good Dr. would do after the Reverse Split..A Major Secondary with Dilution..-NOT THE Lincoln Park-Low Dilutive Deal..SO (IMO) the MM Cabal Shorted, Shrkeili Shrieded, Fraudstein Whined and the Fools Belched and ROSEN LAW et al..-you see them at every road show..if you know what I mean..LOW and BEhold the Stock went from $14/sh to $3..WITHOUT a DILUTIVE Secondary..AND they BLAMED LONGS and ATTACKED LONGS..calling them "Pump and Dump" what a riot..oh well..
SO yes ..Market Makers may intermittently go short stocks..but not like (IMO) what I think they have done to Anavex..I personally think this is what SEC is investigating..WOn't be the first MM Short Cabal Charged..won't be the last..
