The number of shares o/s is absolutely meaningful. For example (for ease of illustration) if there were 100M shares o/s and a company bought us out for $1B, then the pps would be $10 per share. If there were $200M shares o/s for a $1B offer, then the pps would be $5 per share. Pps times number of shares o/s is how you get a company's market cap or value. There are many other reasons why the amount of shares o/s is very, very meaningful. This is just one example for now. Others can opine but I'm late for a meeting! Lol
