illegal_alias..Lightening strike took out my NIC
and cable modem about 4yrs. ago. NIC was on
motherboard also. But I seem to remember that
installed a NIC card in spare slot and it worked.

Am not suggesting that you buy one to try, but if
you happen to have an old spare lying around, as
I did, would be worth a try.
