What's interesting here is who Maxwell refers to as his source, "sources familiar with the matter". As a former reporter/editor, that's not good enough when dealing with something this big with the potential to impact shareholders and stock value. It's bad journalism to say the least, and criminal in effect, to attribute and print something so important, to an anonymous source. No good writer of a reputable paper would be so specific. And, from reading his past articles about GTE, it doesn't look like his style. Is it possible that the few trading houses that are showing this story have less screening ability than the others, in order to get news first, even if it's not true? Wishful thinking?
